He Has Overcome

As a result of a tragic accident, my aunt has passed away.  I last saw her in 2011 when we visited Northern Ireland.  She loved Jesus, knew joy, had such a wonderful infectious laugh, told great stories, had compassion, and was very generous.  She was a beautiful woman and a loving wife and mother.  I wish I had known her better.  One day I will.

She is in the presence of her loving Saviour.  Tragedies don't make sense.  They are not supposed to make sense.

I hesitate to embed the song below as it sounds joyous.  As my family meets tomorrow it will not be a joyful occasion but one of grief.  As N.T. Wright said in regard to those who experience a loved one's death: "Death is a monster; death is horrible."

However, we praise God for Jesus, for redemption, for good out of bad, for the coming resurrection, for the hope that lights our hearts and the peace that only God can give.  We do not forget that Jesus has overcome this world.  We stand in defiance of our enemy.  Our God reigns and will forever do so.

Dear Auntie Heather, I expected I would see you again on this side of glory.  I am sad to know that won't be the case.  I am sad for your family.  We miss you and love you.  I am so thankful to know that we will all celebrate together one day.  This song is for you with love from Elizabeth (More Than Conquerors by Rend Collective):

John 16:33

33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

  1. The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea. Psalm 93 v 4.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God ; in Him will I trust.
    Psalm 91 verses 1 & 2.

    Hello Elizabeth.

Last night as I read your tribute to your Auntie Heather , my kind, thoughtful, witty, encouraging, efficient, capable, clever darling younger sister, servant of Jesus, her Lord and Saviour, I was touched and comforted. You have described her great attributes well. I have re - read it several times and continue to find it moving. Heather’s eyes took in and retained precise detail, exact shades and tints of colour. Most important of all, when young, she had accepted Jesus as Her Lord and Saviour. She rejoiced over others who allowed Jesus into their lives and submitted to His will and purpose.
God blessed her with a truly devoted, kind, loving, compatible, hard working dedicated Christian husband, Jim, a quality gentle man of many abilities, interests and thoroughness. who greatly enriched her life. Together they brought up their humble, bright, beautiful, caring, wise and able (though God) offspring , son Johnathan, and daughter Catherine. Heather, looking radiant, saw Johnathan marry Jessica, a loving Christian young woman on June 11th , less than 5 months ago. May God the Holy Spirit always comfort and sustain Jim, Johnathan & Jessica, Catherine, Jim’s parents, Heather’s relatives and all who mourn Heather leaving this earth so soon. We know that now she is with Her Heavenly Father, Almighty God, and with Daddy, Mummy, (honourable parents and your grandparents) her dear brother Adrian, your brave son Josiah, courageous great nephew Eli, darling Auntie Julia, and many other loved ones. Praise His Holy name.

When thou passeth through the waters, I will be with thee. Isaiah 43 v 2.

Love and prayers from your auntie Julia.
